| Bio: |
| Craig Cardiff is challenging industry and providing an alternative for the TV generation. He asks that his audience invite him into their living rooms; literally. His most recent album, entitled Bombshelter Living Room, is reflective of the audience / performer intimacy that Cardiff supports through his storytelling and songwriting. Cardiff, a collector of stories; encourages an interactive environment with the audience to endorse the true nature of “folk” in his music. The album is a formidable collection of canadiana; touching on conflicting political landscapes and the insular yet beautiful worlds of the very people who listen and support Cardiff’s music. “Making music is a collaborative experience between the performer and the listener,” says Cardiff. Craig welcomes the opportunity to present his music in a variety of venues such as churches, theatres, cafes and festival stages, however he advocates that a living room show provides a more intimate experience. “Disco shanked the singersongwriter in the 70’s, and the 80’s forced it into hibernation. The past 10 years have seen singer the song writer genre come into its own. Bypassing the music machine and connecting directly with audiences.” Cardiff exposes the human condition, beautifying the clumsier and less proud moments. With sardonic sincerity and polished awkwardness, Cardiff’s performances are a mix of story and song, and occasional brawls. “I think that the best shows are the ones where the lights are low, the music weaves in and out and the people forget where the audience begins and the performer ends,” says Cardiff. Cardiff’s commitment to his music is mirrored in his approach to touring and recording during the past eight years. Live recordings, self-produced albums that range in sound experimentation and collaborations comprise his six album records, available as part of the MapleMusic/Universal Records Catalogue. Craig once hurled a challenge at Walter Ostanek during a drunken rampage at a rare public appearance (the drunken rampage was his and the rare public appearance Ostanek’s) for a polka-off, which was never recognized. Cardiff asked Ostanek to wager his Juno Craig has played with and opened for some of the best artists that Canada has to offer including Andy Stochansky, Sarah Harmer, Kathleen Edwards, Blue Rodeo, Danny Michel, Gordon Downie (Tragically Hip), Hawksley Workman, Sarah Slean, Skydiggers, 54-40 and more. |
